Good point on caring about the being a light for others to see. I agree- if we can hold on to that feeling of being valuable, even if without being recognized by the world, we can still make a huge difference.
A long time ago I recall a sermon the pastor gave, where he told us about one lone member who got up every Sunday to arrive at 6am, to turn up the thermostat so the building would be warm, turn on the lights and unlick the doors . But nobody ever saw him or knew his name…he did this for years with no thanks. How much we take for granted!

How wonderful to hear from you! It’s a bit of a cliche, but the children really do keep me young. One of the things I loved best when my own children were little, was seeing the world through their eyes. We lose so much of the wonder as adults. As my kids got older, I slowly lost much of that wonder again. But I am so lucky to be able to catch through my sweeties. They are so positive and so open to all the good in the world. I love being able to go on that journey again with them as my guides!

I hope you do, indeed, work to get some of your writing published. I would strongly recommend a blog as a way for you to start with your essays. The title has me quite intrigued!

Your uncle, Don Sherry, here. I am at Margaret’s, and Melanie shared your facebook message with me. I am appreciative of your optimism in spite of how life can otherwise bring us down. You are blessed, obviously, by how you experience life through your grandchildren. I envy you in that regard. Earth Day is kind of a big thing out New Mexico way. Seems like there is a greater sense of collective consciousness about such concerns there, and individual responsibility to try to be responsible in regard to our carbon footprints. There are increasing concerns about water usage, in particular in light of it’s dwindling supply.
You write well, which doesn’t surprise me regarding your history with it. It’s something that I hope to achieve, one day, to write something publishable. Perhaps a collection of short stories. I’ve got some ideas and sketches for some stories, just need to hunker down and get to it seriously. The working title for my collection of essays is “Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders Rock Mogodishu!”.
Hope things are as good as they can be with your dad. I’ve been meaning to fire him off an email to check in with him. I really enjoyed visiting with him back in October. Keep up the optimism!
